WAYS OF TRAINING YOUR SPLENDEN TO BE A FIGHTER

Initially keep the fish in an isolation pot (photo on website) for 1 week. Then followed by keeping the fish in 1 liter round glass jar for 4 days and flaring it daily. On the 4th day, placed the fish in the training jar (photo on website) with a few imbellis in it plus a small bottle with a splenden placed 1" away. Let the fish chase the imbellis around the training jar and flare with the splenden for 1 hour. The next day do the same thing except when the fish had warm up spin the water of the jar with a stirrer (top of the training jar in picture) until the fish starts flapping its tail and let the spinning water come to a halt. Allow the fish to catch its breath (the gill movement frequency reverts to normal) and continue the spin. Remember to stand on the side of the training jar where the light source will not cast shadows on the jar.

Do this 4 times and remove the fish and keep the fish in a gallon jar with 3” deep water to let it recover better. Rest 1 day and increase by 1 spin on the next training followed by resting until the fish had gone thru’ 4 days of spin training. Rest the fish for another day followed by flaring the fish the next day for 1/2 hour in a jar used in fish fights but with a partition board to block approximately 60% view of the fish next to it by moving the board to about 1” past the middle line. This is to prevent the fishes from damaging its mouth from over contact with the glass. In Thailand they cut the board angled 20 degrees downwards and set the board with the bottom taper side at exactly the middle line and the tapering upwards will be able to block some of the view for the same purpose. Rest the fish for another day & it is fighting ready.

The flaring is necessary to loosen its stiff neck caused by the spin training so that the maneuverability of the fish will return to normal. Should the fight not take place, train the fish immediately the next day (7 spins), followed by rest, 7 spins, rest, flaring, rest, ready again and the cycle goes on. Training is best done at noon and feed the fish moderately once a day before sunset.

Put faith in this training, you can modify a bit for example flaring the fish to replace the rest period if the fish is too fat or increase the spins but the day of rest before fights is compulsory. There are people who return the fish to the isolation pot after the last training and fishing it out only for flaring. If your fish still loses then your opponents fish must be of superior bred or upbringing than yours.

You can also use a splenden training net if you have one to transfer the fish from jar to training jar and vice versa. Cover the net opening when the fish is in it and the fish will skip in the net once it is out of water. These exercises and toughens its body muscle and also familiarize the fish with human handling. This training is very popular in Thailand (ali baba training), which I will share at a later stage.

Remember that training contribute to only 20% of fish performance, the main factors are fish raising condition and the bloodline. There are fishes that are so good that flaring exercise is enough. Good water quality and live food like larvae, shrimp, termites (unverified) that improves the health of fish will add to its performance. Remember to check that the fish is top form indicated by big bubble nest and semi open finage as it swims around. A fish is at its peak form when the pectoral fin drops down each time it stops moving. Over training & sickness will cause the fish to lose form and using a female to spur the form of a fish is not desirable as sperm buildup in its system will adversely affect the focus of the fish and its stamina.
